Clear communication is critical when conducting Search and Rescue operations. The following information is designed to assist in collecting the facts and reporting important information.
Step 1: About You
When calling Search and Rescue please be ready to provide:
- Your name
- Relationship to the missing person/s
- Contact telephone number
- Alternate contact person familiar with the details if you are unable to remain the point of contact
Step 2: About the Missing Person/s
Please be ready to provide:
- Name of the missing person/s
- Cell phone number
- Are they carrying a PLB?
- What was their last confirmed position?
- Planned Itinerary
- Did they leave and trip plan information with a point of contact?
- What was the planned route (e.g. Trail names and Distances)?
- What was the purpose of the trip (e.g.Hunting, Travel)?
- Did they specify a date and time they expected to arrive at their destination?
- Were they anticipating on staying at specific cabins or camp sites?
- Location of any parked vehicles (e.g. Snow Machine)
- Survival gear carried
- Are they carrying a firearm?
- What is their survival experience/skill level?
